xyanthon@hotmail.comI'm a Systems Administrator with the Department of Defense. I've worked in the IT field since 1993. That is my day job and I enjoy it well enough. However, my passion is for illustration in general and fantasy art illustration in particular. I've been drawing pictures of knights and dragons for as long as I can remember. Lately, I've been working on the Old School Refernce Index and Compliation (OSRIC for short) art. Doing old school fantasy RPG art is something I've done since I first got the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Monster Manual when I was 11. Now I'm working on a variety of RPG projects and currently designing my own OSRIC compatable campaign world. I'm also fairly well fascinated by "primitive" art such as cave art, folk art, and the like. Pretty much anything that demonstrates the cumpulsion to create is a primal urge that transcends any formal training in art and the need for humanity to communicate.
My family is the most important aspect of my life. I appreciate my wife's ability to put up with many hours spent at the kitchen table drawing. My son is an endless source of fascination and amusement. We also have another child due any day now! I know it has been said by many before me, but I couldn't have made it to where I am now without the love and support of my family.
I fully intend to keep this journal about gaming. I guess I'm not really a complex character (at least according to my wife, heh) but I do have a lot of interest other than gaming (see my interests list) and they will probably make it here on occasion. After all, I'm only human and do have my own views and several different interests. I'll probably talk a fair amount on my family and current happenings as well as my passions for gaming and art.
Politics tends to give me a headache although I follow it quite a bit. I consider myself a moderate with pretty liberal leanings. I tend to take a live and let live approach. After all, as long as what a person does with their life does not impinge on the freedoms/wellbeing of others, then it is really none of my concern. I like to make friends with all sorts and am quite frankly fed up with any judgemental political/religious beliefs of all stripes. I fully realize that the "why can't we all just get along" approach is not really feasible, but I intend to make my way through the world by being positive and not a beligerant pisshead because I've been around that kind of behavior far too much in my life. So I'm happy to take my friends where I find them.
I'm not a religious/spiritual person. If I have to label myself in that area it would be as an agnostic with secular-humanist leanings. I don't really care to go on religious or antireligious rants because it just doesn't fit in with what I want to accomplish. I do however like to go to Universalist Unitarian Churches if I feel a particular need to be around anything remotely spiritual. My wife is much more up on spiritual matters than I am though so I probably won't say anything else about it really.
I do like music but I don't really follow anything in particular these days. I used to consider myself a punker but really have fallen out of all that pretentiousness. I have very eclectic tastes in music that range from the afore mentioned punk rock to blue grass, folk, celtic, classical, jazz, etc. I'm pretty open to new stuff but don't spend alot of time obsessing over it.
So game on, hopefully you find some interesting tidbits here. Feel free to leave comments as I do appreciate feedback from others. I'll try to update often or at least when I feel like I have something to say. If you like rpgs, please feel free to chime in with your feedback on my projects, I like to know what others think about it.
